Spherofix Technology

Kapstone Medical has licensed a portfolio of patents from Spherofix AB. The patents cover a unique screw locking technology invented by Sven Olerud, a world-renowned retired orthopedic surgeon and professor emeritus of orthopedics.

During the course of his clinical and teaching career, Professor Olerud recognized a need in orthopedics for fixation devices that were less awkward to use than existing technologies and allowed a wide range of angulation options while still retaining a strong and secure lock once implanted. Based on his experience, the Spherofix technology was born.

Kapstone is the exclusive licensee of this technology for orthopedics and is actively pursuing multiple development projects starting with selected spinal products. Our expertise, combined with Professor Olerud’s active involvement, will generate novel patent-protected implant systems for our clients. As an independent development company, Kapstone welcomes industry partners for co-development, marketing or sales of new implant systems utilizing these technologies.
